JOB DESCRIPTION
We are seeking applications from highly motivated individuals; the successful post-holder will be actively engaged in supporting the Region to build and grow our membership by assisting the Union’s officers to identify unorganised workplaces for recruitment and assist them in the recruitment and retention of members. As such, there may be a requirement for the successful candidate to travel around the region and work from varying locations in order to fulfil the duties of the role. Prospective candidates are therefore required to be in possession of a full current driving licence.
It should also be noted that the hours of work are unspecified and as outlined in the job description will require flexibility on working hours, which may include early mornings, late evenings and weekend working. Periods of working away from home may also be required.
The successful candidate will:
- Possess a flexible attitude and a full range of organising, recruitment and administrative skills as outlined in the job description.
- Be able to work on their own initiative to undertake duties in a professional and efficient manner.
- Have an understanding of the GMB, other Trade Unions as well as commitment to the wider Trade Union and Labour Movement.
- Applicants must be prepared to work as a team, and the successful candidate would display strong interpersonal skills and an ability to communicate effectively in challenging environments.
- On a personal basis, the applicant would need to display energy, enthusiasm, resilience, commitment, and an ability to use initiative.
We are looking for someone who possesses the ability to work well independently but is also a real team player.
In return, we offer excellent terms and benefits, including:
- Final salary pension scheme
- Employee Assistance Programme
- Season ticket loan
- Cycle to work scheme
- Generous holiday allowance
This is a varied and interesting role, based in a friendly and engaging team; if you think you may be who we’re looking for, and if you feel you meet the criteria outlined in the person specification of the job description, we’d like to hear from you.
TO APPLY: If you would like to apply, please request an application pack from Lauren Shurgold (lauren.shurgold@gmb.org.uk), Regional Secretary’s Office.
