JOB DESCRIPTION

GMB’s London Region is a large and diverse region: the region currently serves over 88,000 members, 106 Branches, and covers a large geographical landscape that includes: Greater London, Essex, Norfolk, Milton Keynes, through to Oxfordshire and Buckinghamshire.
The region is currently seeking applications for the role of Senior Organiser from individuals with a desire to help us build the membership of the region across the industrial sectors in this key strategic role. The principal duties of the Senior Organiser are to co-ordinate sectional membership strategies and to undertake direct managerial responsibilities for a team Officers and support staff, and the successful post-holder will manage and mentor a diverse team in any designated area and/or industrial sections of the region to achieve success and deliver on the region’s strategic aims.
Applicants must have a proven record of the following:
- Leading successful organising and campaigning activities.
- An understanding of GMB’s strategic objectives, and a proven record of working to achieve these objectives.
- Experience of building effective branch structures and performance through recruitment, retention and campaigning activities.
- Able to demonstrate strong leadership skills with a record of building team performance, ideally obtained within a unionised environment.

Other Information
- Training will be provided to the successful candidate.
- The hours of work for the role are unspecified and will necessarily entail an element of unsocial hours, including weekend work. Periods of working away from home will also be required.
- Candidates should be aware that they may be required to work from any location within the London Region at the discretion of the Regional Secretary, in order to meet the needs of the region.
